Consumer confidence in the Green Deal Scheme

Press release - 18th May 2012

The British Standards Institution (BSI) and National Energy Services (NES) have created a unique partnership to provide an independent certification service to Green Deal Advisor Organisations for the forthcoming Green Deal.

BSI & NES are pleased to announce that UKAS has approved the partnership that will ensure that advisors provide advice and reports that are in accordance with DECC’s requirements.

As part of the Government’s Green Deal initiative, all advisors must be independently audited and certified. This is so everyone can have confidence in the advice they receive from a Green Deal Advisor – that the products and/or work being recommended is suitable for their home or commercial property and that the costs will be recouped within the lifetime of the products. The Green Deal will reduce the energy consumption of homes and commercial properties, resulting in lower running costs for occupiers as well as reducing the environmental impact in terms of carbon emissions.

Andrew Launn, Director of Assurance at BSI commented: “Partnering with NES to deliver independent audits for Green Deal Advice Organisations means that we can provide a robust service across the UK. NES expertise in the energy assessment market combined with our heritage in the construction sector means the partnership can bring a wealth of knowledge, expertise and reassurance to certifying the Green Deal Advice Service.”

Brian Scannell, Managing Director at NES added: “We are delighted to be joining forces with BSI and establishing a Certification Body for Green Deal Advice Organisations.. High quality and trustworthy advice is imperative to the success of the Green Deal and the combined skills of our two organisations will ensure we have the necessary framework to achieve this. For our existing customers who now wish to become Green Deal Advisors, I believe this unique partnership between NES & BSI will offer the highest levels of support and expertise and will in turn help them succeed in delivering their part of the Green Deal.”

The BSI/NES partnership has been accredited by UKAS, the sole national accreditation body in the UK, to deliver an impartial assessment and certification of organisations delivering a Green Deal Advice Service. To obtain accreditation, BSI & NES have been through a rigorous review process and had to demonstrate the competence, impartiality and performance capabilities of evaluators to assess against the criteria defined in the standard. BSI/NES has been in the first group of organisations to be approved and is therefore ideally placed to ensure that our customers can be ‘Green Deal ready’ in good time for the launch.
